Jon Schnautz

Jon Schnautz is NAMIC’s vice president of State Affairs, supervising the association’s eight regional vice presidents. He also directs advocacy work in Texas and heads up NAMIC’s advocacy at the National Council of Insurance Legislators. Prior to his current position, Schnautz was NAMIC’s regional vice president, Southwest region. He worked for more than 15 years in legislative and regulatory roles before his service at NAMIC. Most recently, he was chief of staff to Texas state Rep. John Smithee, a longtime chair of the House Insurance Committee, and also held positions of general counsel and senior policy advisor on insurance to a former speaker of the Texas House, Joe Straus. Schnautz was also an attorney at Thompson & Knight, LLP, and a policy analyst for state Sen. Todd Staples.

He holds a J.D. with high honors from the University of Texas Law School and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Texas.
